Teaching and Learning Highlights

Broadening Music Horizons

In addition to Western classical music, students also learn to appreciate Chinese instrumental music and traditional world music and popular music. This results in broadening their music and cultural horizons, strengthening their knowledge and promoting their respect for local and other cultures.

Integrating Soft Skills

Music learning and the development of generic skills are closely related. Whilst students can progressively develop generic skills through participating in different music activities, generic skills also facilitate music learning. For instance, communication, collaboration, problem-solving and self-management skills can be cultivated through ensemble performances and group projects.

Value Education

Students are helped to build proper values and attitudes in music learning and training. For instance, cultivating a life-long interest in music through engaging in creating, performing and listening to music; understanding and respecting traditions as well as values of other cultures through appraising music from different cultures; observing intellectual property rights through encouraging the use of licensed music software.

National Security Education

To help students to instil a stronger sense of national identity, students appreciate the musical features of the national anthem, discuss the lyrics setting, consolidate the singing skills and realise the spirit behind. Students are also encouraged to appreciate Chinese music and musicians, and to learn different Chinese musical instruments and join the School Chinese Orchestra.
