Our school recently held a Chinese Culture Festival featuring engaging activities that showcased the essence of Chinese culture. On February 28, we participated in the “Jockey Club Exploring Chinese Culture Ambassador Program: Lion Dance Performance and Experience Activity,” organized by the Unity Hong Kong Foundation.
The event included a spectacular lion dance performance by the Ha Kwok Cheung Dragon and Lion Dance team, followed by a session that explained the symbolic meanings and movements of the lion. Students also had the opportunity to practice basic lion dance steps, reinforcing the perseverance lesson.
Our teachers, vice principal, and principal honored the occasion by wearing traditional attire, reflecting the elegance of Chinese culture.
That evening, to celebrate the Year of the Snake, promote Chinese culture, and uphold the spirit of unity, our school hosted the “Chinese Culture Talent Show and Poon Choi Feast”. Our principal, teachers, support staff, parents, and students gathered to enjoy a Sichuan opera face-changing performance, which showcased the striking visual impact of this unique art form.
Following the performance, we had the opportunity to try on traditional Chinese Hanfu. Parent volunteers explained the evolution of Hanfu throughout the various dynasties, helping us appreciate the long history and rich cultural significance of traditional clothing.
The evening concluded with a traditional Poon Choi feast, during which we enjoyed talented performances by both teachers and students. We were fully engaged and immersed in the vibrant ocean of Chinese culture, experiencing the allure of this millennia-old artistic heritage!
